UNILEVER REMAINS COMMITTED
TO DOMINICAN REPUBLIC
Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic 30 enero, 2009 – Unilever, one of the largest consumer goods companies in the world, today confirmed its intention to continue doing business in the Dominican Republic. Pablo Garrido, Chairman of Unilever Greater Caribbean stated that although the company has taken the decision to transfer some of its home care production lines to other Unilever plants in Central America, the company will maintain its manufacturing and administrative operations in the country.
Three weeks ago the company announced to its employees and their representative trade union, the decision to restructure the manufacturing operation of some of its home care products in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, following extensive evaluations. The decision is part of a global initiative by Unilever to achieve higher efficiencies in its global supply chain network. Products that are earmarked for transfer are Candado and Kinder soaps, Mistolin Bolas dishwashing liquid and Mistolin cream dishwashing liquid as well as Omo and Radiante detergents. The production of Mistolin disinfectant and dishwashing liquid as well as Llave detergent will remain in the Santo Domingo plant.
“The decision to transfer some lines out of the country was a difficult one for us but it is important to note that at the same time, we have our Knorr plant which recently increased production following the transfer of volumes from other Unilever plants. This was also part of the same global initiative,” Garrido said.
Unilever has three operations in the Dominican Republic – the Home and Personal Care plant, the Knorr Alimentaria Plant and an administrative office in Santo Domingo. The administrative office and the Knorr Alimentaria Plant are not impacted by the recent reoganization. “Unilever has been in this country for over 30 years and we are committed to continue contributing to the Dominican economy and community, “Garrido added.
Unilever Caribe reiterated that this reorganization will not impact the quality nor availability of its products.
