The bi-national chambers of commerce of the Commonwealth of Countries in Dominican Republic signed an agreement on Monday to jointly promote bilateral relations with nations which have burgeoning trade a population of more that two billion people.
The organization of 54 countries scattered in the six continents have a common origin, political system and idiosyncrasy, and currently control 25% of the world’s trade, with a population of 2.1 billion inhabitants, said India Honorary Consul Fernando Gonzalez Nicolas to introduce the participants.
The representatives of the Chambers of Commerce of Great Britain, Canada, Trinidad and Tobago, India and South Africa signed the agreement to jointly focus their efforts and of their associates to bolster bilateral relations between the Commonwealth countries and Dominican Republic.
The heads of the chambers of Commerce of Great Britain in Dominican Republic, Roberto Herrera; of Canada, Eduardo Domínguez Imbert; of Trinidad and Tobago, Oscar Rosa; of India, Jay Nayar; and the president of the Dominican Society of Friends of South Africa, Norman de Castro signed the agreement, with the diplomatic representatives of the countries as witnesses.
Gonzalez, who is also president of the Round Table of Commonwealth of Nations in Dominican Republic, welcomed the participants in the ceremony held in the Torre Empresarial where he affirmed it’s convenient for Dominican Republic to continue improving its economic, social and political relations with the organization’s countries.
“Investments from the Commonwealth of Nations are the country’s leaders and have been very positive for Dominicans,” Gonzales said, adding that companies from those nations have proven their interest in establishing operations in the country, and cited Puerto Plata’s power plant San Felipe as an example.
Queen Elizabeth’s message to mark Commonwealth day was read by Scott Melling, representing British Ambassador Steven Fisher.
Round Table Legal Adviser Jose Maria Cabral said the agreement is an initiative which promotes relations between Dominican Republic and Commonwealth countries and concurrently with group of bi-national chambers of Commerce, diplomats and multinational companies.
